Our Shops

145 of Our Reviews Mention Kolaches. We Are a Shop With “Donut” in the Name.

9 October 2026 · 4 min read

We did not set out to be a kolache shop. The name on the building says Donut Run. But when we counted how often our own customers bring them up, the number was not close.

Google tags reviews by what people mention in them. Across our three listings, 145 reviews name the kolaches.

Google reviews that mention kolaches, by shop Kolaches are mentioned in 71 Spanish Fork reviews, 39 Ogden reviews and 35 St. George reviews, which is 145 in total. On the Spanish Fork listing alone that is more than cake donuts at 11, old fashioned at 8 and blueberry cake at 4 combined. Reviews that mention kolaches Google listings, read 9 October 2026 Spanish Fork71Ogden39St. George35Cake donuts11Old fashioned8Blueberry cake4 For scale, on the Spanish Fork listing: 145 mentions across three listings. We are a shop with “Donut” in the name.
Kolaches are named in more reviews than every donut style on the list put together. Our customers found them without us pointing.

What that number is, and what it is not

It is not a popularity poll and we are not going to dress it up as one. It is a count of how many people, writing about us unprompted, thought the kolaches were the thing worth mentioning. Nobody asked them to. There is no campaign behind it.

What makes it striking is the comparison inside a single listing. On Spanish Fork, kolaches are named in 71 reviews. Cake donuts: 11. Old fashioned: 8. Blueberry cake: 4. The savoury pastry is mentioned more than every donut style on that list combined, at a shop with “Donut” in the name.

What people actually say

The two things that come up are the bread and the filling, in that order. An Ogden customer put it better than our menu does:

“Kolaches were perfect-like grandmas homemade buns with a good portion of eggs, bacon, cheese and potato.”

— J L, reviewing our Ogden shop

“Grandma's homemade buns” is the right instinct. It is bread dough, not pastry, and that is the whole character of the thing. If you want the cross-section, we drew it: what is actually inside a kolache.

What it changed

Honestly, it changed what we pay attention to. A shop reads its own counter and assumes it knows what sells. Reading 145 reviews that all land on the same item is a different kind of information, and it is the reason the kolaches are no longer a footnote on this website.

It is also a fair warning about mornings. The kolaches are baked in one go with the morning bake, in the same kitchen as the donuts, and when they are gone they are gone. We are not going to invent a time for you — it moves. But we open at 5:00am six days a week across all three shops, and earlier is genuinely better.

Where to get one

  • Spanish Fork — 1306 E Center St. The busiest of the three, and the listing where kolaches come up most.
  • Ogden — 554 Washington Blvd. The only shop with The Soda Run dirty soda counter alongside it.
  • St. George — 922 E Brigham Rd. Forty minutes from Zion, open at five, which matters if you are trying to be on the trail at sunrise.

Small kolaches are $2.50, or $26.50 a dozen. Large are $4.75, or $49.50 a dozen. Every filling we make is listed here.

Common questions
