Breakfast Before a Shift in Ogden: What to Eat When You Start at Six

15 September 2026 · 4 min read

If your shift starts at six, you have a narrow window and most places are shut. We open at 5:00am at 554 Washington Blvd, Monday through Saturday. Order a large kolache — it is a complete breakfast you can eat with one hand and it will still be good an hour later.

What actually holds up

The question before a shift is not what tastes best at the counter. It is what is still worth eating at 7:30 when you finally get a minute.

  • Large kolache, $4.75. The best answer. Sausage, egg, cheese and potato, or bacon, egg, cheese and potato. Substantial enough to hold you, and it travels in a pocket or a lunchbox without falling apart.
  • Sausage, egg and gravy kolache. The heaviest thing we make. For a physical shift, this is the one.
  • Cake donut, $2.50. If you want something sweet that will still be decent mid-morning. A cake donut keeps far better than a glazed.
  • Glazed, $1.50. Best eaten in the first hour. Perfect for right now, less good for later.

Coffee, and the other thing

We brew fresh ground coffee through the morning at $2.50. We also pour Perks — specialty coffee from a local roaster — at Ogden and St. George.

And Ogden has something the other shops do not: The Soda Run counter, which operates alongside the donut shop and makes dirty soda. Fountain soda with cream, flavoured syrup, often coconut or lime. If you are starting at six and coffee is not your thing, this is the Utah answer, and Ogden is the only one of our shops that has it.

Buying for the crew

If you are the one who stops on the way in, dozen pricing is buy ten, get two free. A dozen large kolaches is $49.50 and feeds a crew properly. A dozen glazed is $15.00.

Half kolaches, half donuts is the order that works for a mixed shift — some people want breakfast and some want sugar, and this way nobody is disappointed.
