What 1,295 Customer Reviews Actually Say About The Donut Run

Across our three Utah shops, customers have left 1,295 reviews on Google. 1,071 of them are five-star — a little over eight in ten. We went through what people actually write, and the most-discussed item on the menu is not a donut. It is the kolache, and it is not close.

St. George sits four tenths below the other two. It is our newest shop and our smallest review base, and we would rather put that in a table than leave it out of one. If you have been to the St. George counter and it was not right, the fastest way to get it fixed is to say so — we read them.
What people talk about — and it is kolaches
Google groups reviews by the things customers mention. On the Spanish Fork listing, which carries the largest review base of the three, the counts break down like this:

Kolaches are mentioned more than every donut term on that list put together. For a business with "Donut" in its name, that is worth saying plainly: the thing our customers bring up unprompted, more than anything else, is the savoury pastry.

A kolache is not a donut, and that trips people up
A kolache is a soft, enriched yeast bread wrapped around a filling and baked, not fried. The savoury ones — sausage, bacon, egg and cheese, jalapeño — are the ones people come back for. If you have driven past assuming a donut shop sells only sweet things before nine in the morning, that is the misunderstanding worth clearing up. We bake them fresh with the first trays.
The other thing reviews keep returning to: it is early
Every shop opens at 5:00am, six days a week. That turns up constantly in reviews, usually from people whose shift starts before most counters have unlocked. Nobody writes "extended morning availability." They write that we were open when they needed us.
"Wow!! Yummy donuts, happy workers and quick service! This could be dangerous having good donuts so close haha"
What people say about the people
Staff come up almost as often as any single item. This is the one we are most pleased about, because it is the hardest to fix if it goes wrong and the easiest to take for granted when it goes right.
"We stopped by to check out this place not realizing it was their opening weekend! One of the owners invited my 5 year old son back for a tour."
