If you have searched for us in Ogden you may have seen two names attached to one address and wondered which one you were going to. The answer is both. They are the same counter.
One building, two names
The Soda Run is our dirty soda counter, and it lives inside The Donut Run in Ogden, at 554 Washington Blvd. Same door, same staff, same till. It is not a second business that happens to share a wall with us and it is not a franchise of something else. We built it, we run it, and it exists because of what people were already doing.
We are saying this plainly because listings and maps do not always make it obvious. If you have seen the two names and assumed they were separate places, that is a reasonable thing to have assumed and it is our job to clear it up, not yours to figure out.
Why we built it
Utah drinks dirty soda the way other places drink coffee. It is a fountain soda built out with cream, syrup and usually a fruit purée or a squeeze of lime, and there are counters across the state that do nothing else.
People were coming into the Ogden shop at six in the morning for donuts and then driving somewhere else for a drink. That is a silly thing to make somebody do. So we put the soda counter in the donut shop, and now it is one stop.
What that means in practice
- One order. Donuts, kolaches and a dirty soda go on the same ticket. You do not queue twice.
- Same hours. Ogden opens at 5:00am, Monday through Saturday, and runs to 3:00pm. Closed Sundays. The soda counter keeps the shop's hours, so yes, you can get a dirty soda at five in the morning.
- Ogden only. Spanish Fork and St. George do not have a soda counter, and we would rather tell you that than have you drive to the wrong shop for one.
What goes with what
The pairing that makes the most sense is the savoury one. A large kolache — sausage and cheese, or bacon egg cheese and potato — with a cold dirty soda is a proper breakfast rather than a sugar run, and it is the order that makes the shared counter worth having.
If you are going sweet, go the other way and keep the drink simple. A fritter or a filled donut alongside a heavily built soda is a lot of sugar in one sitting.
If you are coming from out of town
Ogden is the shop to pick if dirty soda is any part of the plan, and it is the one that runs to 3:00pm six days a week rather than closing earlier on Fridays and Saturdays the way Spanish Fork and St. George do.
Everything else is the same at all three: same recipes, same 5:00am open, buy ten get two free on any dozen, and half price on the case after 2:00pm Monday to Thursday.
